MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by VISA is a service that lets you shop online with added confidence. It works on the same principle as chip and pin – The retailer takes your card details to process a transaction and you authorise the transaction by entering a pin number only known to you.
SecureCode and Verified by VISA works in the following way.
Once you have entered your card details on our site and are ready to pay click ‘PAY’. MasterCard SecureCode or Verified by VISA will then confirm the cards identity.
If you are required to have a SecureCode you will be redirected to a page to either enter your SecureCode (a 6-10 digit alpha numeric code) or set up a SecureCode by giving additional information. As of 30th June 2007 all online transactions done using a Maestro card require authorisation by a SecureCode. However, your card issuer may require you to have a SecureCode set up regardless of card type. It is up to individual retailers to make sure their site is compliant with this directive.
