Avoca Anthology
Avoca Anthology is an Irish clothing manufacturer. It is a part of the Avoca Handweavers selling women's clothing. It is the oldest surviving business in Ireland.
The business is situated in Avoca, in the County Wicklow. The story started in 1723 when it was difficult to travel from Avoca to get goods from other places. A mill was built on the River Avoca. In 1970 a new quick loom came to the mill. It was able to make 20 meters of cloth a day. Because workers were afraid of losing the employment, riots started.
In the 1920s sisters Wynners inherited the mill. It brought a new life to the enterprise. As they introduced natural colour dyes, they started selling tweeds all over the world. The business run very well but unfortunately the sisters' death made it to be neglected.
Donald and Hillary Pratt, a lawyer and his wife, bought the Mill in 1974. They both gave up their careers to take care of the new business. Working very hard, slowly the mill stared to going well again.
Now Avoca have eight stores in Ireland. At the beginning they only rugs, throws and scarves were sold. Later, tweed clothes were added as well as Irish linen and pottery. Now the range of products is much greater. Avoca is now selling kidswear, toys, jewellery, women's and men's clothes, ceramics, books, gifts and homewares. There are also Avoca Cafes.
GetMyFashion has been selling Avoca Anthology, the women's wear collection since they started in 2006 following the success of the label in their retail shop, Diva. Avoca Anthology was launched in London in 2002, when they also won a Drapers Record award, and is now one of the leading names in the UK clothing industry.
